BAC is now The Art Project!
We are a nonprofit gallery with deep roots and bold dreams.
In March of 2018, in celebration of our 70th anniversary, we took the next step in our evolution, honoring our rich past and setting the stage for a more high-impact future.
On March 10, Bainbridge Arts & Crafts became The Art Project.
Our makeover is the culmination of two years of reflection, research, and conversations with visitors, members, and friends. Conversations that told us that our name was confusing, our gallery space dated, our far-reaching education and outreach programs unknown by many―all while our community had grown, with newcomers having little idea who we were and what we had to offer.
We saw a tremendous opportunity.
So, in the spirit of Mr. and Mrs. James Hodges, who in 1948 took a leap in envisioning a “nonprofit organization to provide creative activity,” we also took a leap. Our top-to-bottom makeover will help us remain vibrant, relevant, and sustainable for the next 70 years.
Walk into the gallery today and you'll find a transformed space: beautiful, open, inviting―restored to much of its original architectural uniqueness, and with more space for art and art education.
The new name, The Art Project, embodies what we’re proud of and stand for: our long, community-driven history; our inclusive, open-minded approach; and our belief that there’s an artist in everyone.
Our mission? We did some word-smithing, but at its core it remains unchanged: we are a nonprofit gallery dedicated to illuminating our corner of the world through gallery exhibitions, art education, and community outreach.
We hope you join us on this exciting journey as we build a better, stronger organization together. Thank you.
